Mixers in the shower area are capable of mixing hot and cold water, in a special valve. After being mixed in a valve, mixed water is available at the shower head. They can be used both for low and high pressure. They are available both as concealed and exposed versions. In an exposed bath/shower, the pipe work is installed on the top of the tiled, marble, granite or glass tile surface, whereas in concealed versions the pipe work is hidden behind a finished wall surface where only the wall plate and handle is seen.

Mixing is ideal when water from the two sources comes at the same pressure. Hot water can come from a boiler or a heater where the cold water can come from a water tank.
