Mela
Cast: Aamir Khan, Twinkle Khanna
Director : Dharmesh Darshan

Mela the forthcoming of Aamir and Twinkle is the topic of deep discussion in gallery of filmi critic. The Raja Hindustani fame Director Dharmesh Darshan again ready to face the new sucess in new millenium. Will it give the breakthorugh to Twinkle like Karishma did in Raja Hindustani is an another question in gallery.Sound and substance will come alive on the Indian screen after a long time in the form of Mela, the greatest entertainer of the millennium. This extravagant treat stars Aamir Khan with Faisal Khan and Twinkle Khanna, which by itself is a casting coup. The fortunate few who have seen rushes of the film are all praise of story and technical brilliance of the film. They are of the opinion that Mela is a fast-paced entertainer~r and very few films can boast of such style and substance. Aamir Khan himself says that Mela is one film he has enjoyed doing and it is close to his heart. According to him this is the Amir Khan style of entertainment from the word go. And if one goes by past record, the Aamir Khan style of entertainment has always done wonders at the box-office.He reasserts his position as one of the craftsmen of the new generation. He is a rare blend of youth and wisdom with an insight of what moves the audience. His knack of translating ideas into emotions is again evident in Mela. In the opinion of trade experts the magic combination of Dharmesh Darshan and Aamir Khan has brought the screen alive once again. And there is a sensitivity and maturity that has come in handling the talented cast of the film which include artistes like Tiku Talsania, Archana Puran Singh, Navneet Singh Nishan, Tanvi Azmi, Omkar Kapoor and Ayub Khan in a special appearance, Tinu Verma as "Gujjar". What is truly remarkable about the film is that the producers Venus Records & Tapes Ltd. have actually had a village set created and had a real Mela going for almost 100 days at Film City. Such grandeur is unheard of even in Bollywood. The sensational hit song Mela dilon ka.., was shot at this ethnic, mind boggling set. The film comes alive in every frame and such slickness and technique has only been experienced before in Hollywood films. Anu Malik's music is sensational and was already a rage all over India a day after its release. The mad rush for cassettes and CDs are mainly due to the fantastic promos of Mela showing on all television channels. Venus Cassettes and Records who is a lead player in the scene, has one more winner on their hands with Mela. This film will prove that no one can beat the range and consistency of Anu Malik. Dhadkan Mein Tum a melodious number was shot in Jaisalmer with Aamir and Twinkle participating. Then it was on to Switzerland where Rajan Kinnagi will once again enthrall the audience with his spectacular photography. Tujhe rab ne banaya kamaal... is the song picturised here and this number just stresses one fact: Yeh picture banaya kamaal... Every frame of the film speaks volumes of the dedication, hard work and talent of Dharmesh Darshan Aamir Khan Faisal Khan and Twinkle Khanna. Mela, true to its name is colourful, exciting and totally entertaining. And the team of Mela is confident that the film is a sure hit when it releases on 7 January 2000. A great way to start a new millennium! Sound and substance will come alive on the Indian screen after a long time in the form of Mela, the greatest entertainer of the millennium. 'Venus's Mela is a fabulous new film by Dharmesh Darshan, the director of the super hit film Raja Hindustani. This extravagant treat stars Aamir Khan with Faisal Khan and Twinkle Khanna, which by itself is a casting coup.

Kaho na Pyar hai
Cast: Ritwik Roshan, Amisha Patel
Director : Rakesh Roshan

Rakesh Roshan is now ready to launch his son Ritwik Roshan and coming film will decide the future for both, father and son becouse last film of Rakesh Roshan got a big flop. The funda of "K" as told by R.Roshan that it is the lucky alphabet for him is still remaining if you'll take a slight look on Rakesh Roshan you'll catch the "K" from Kamchor to Koyla all film started with "K" and it is another one in series of Kaho...'Believe in love' is what Rakesh Roshan's 'Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai' yells out. Rajesh Roshan's music struggles hard to deliver the message to us and almost succeeds. Rajesh Roshan has always managed to create memorable music. So what if the changing market forces have effected his output, his music still manages to pull the heart strings. The music of ' Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai' is pleasant and fresh with emphasis more on melody than mere beats and technological innovation. Too many cooks spoil the broth, but here, surprisingly three lyricists : Ibrahim Ashq, Vijay Akela and yes Saavan Kumar Tak combine to give good results. Thank God no samosas, idlis or mobile phones for a change. We think Saawan Kumar is better off penning lyrics than making films like the disastrous Mother 98, 99 or whatever. The album opens with the title track,'Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai', pacy, foot tapping and melodious, establishing the romantic mood of the film. Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik deliver the goods well. Problems start with 'Dil Ne Dil Ko Pukara', a totally forgettable and hence passable number. Kumar Sanu spoils a melodious 'Chand Sitare' with his nasal 'trying to be' voice. Asha Bhonsle scores yet again with 'Janeman'. It's a song that could've been called mundane but the lady saves it with her seductive and versatile voice. 'Na Tum Jano Na Hum', a soul-searching song that soothes the mind and is sung by Lucky Ali is undoubtedly the best in the album. At times though one is compelled to think whether Lucky Ali's base voice fits the bracket of Hindi film music. However the lad does justice to the song, unlike the hip, 'Ek Pal Ka Jeena', where he proves a misfit. The song reminds one of the songs from Feroz Khan's films with leather-clad studs, except that it doesn't sound as good. After 'Dil To Pagal Hai', it has become a trend to have theme music in every film. Here it's called 'believe in love' and lives up to its title. Over all, the music of 'Kaho Naa Pyaar' sounds good to the ears. Let's hope the audience too responds as desired, 'Kaha Na Pyaar Hai'. - Anand Pandey.

Thakshak

Cast: Ajay Devgan, Tabu
Director : Govind Nihlani

Guns and Roses.
This week the connoisseur of Offbeat cinema, Govind Nihalani made a big splash into the world of mainstream movies. So a pot pourri of 'artiness' with a spoonful of 'masala' in it is what 'Thakshak' is all about. For his maiden venture, Govind Nihalani has taken up Mumbai's builder's community and its nexus with the underworld to task..

Set in the middle of Mumbai's modern cement jungle is the story of Ishaan Singh (Ajay Devgan). Ishaan is the son of Nahar Singh (Amrish Puri) who is an associate of the underworld don turned builder Jodha bhai. Ishaan is thus sucked into the blackhole of crime alongwith his buddies Randhir and Sunny (Rahul Bose). Sunny is the grandson of Jodha bhai and heir to the throne of the underworld. In comes the lissome, beautiful Suman Dev (Tabu), a middle class girl with a penchant for classical dance. Our hero, Ishaan falls head over heels in love with her. But doesn't reveal anything about his work to her.

Suman, on the other hand hates violence and believes in peace & truth. Much like the typical self styled Hindi heroine. Jodha bhai has a rival in Feroz bhai of Feroz builders. Both vye for a piece of land where the family of Narrottamji live by. The competitors approach them separately for the land but Narottam refuses to sell. The power game then begins with each trying to woo the family. Sunny decides to take the matter up. So along with Randhir and Ishaan, he goes to Narottam's house one night, gets him to sign the papers and kills the entire family. Will Ishaan be able to avenge this? Can he ever come out of Sunny's shadow of underworld? Will be in time to save Suman from the claws of death?

To catch the answers watch the film 'Thakshak'. Of the performances, Ajay Devgan displays the fluid sense of acting, which seems to be second nature to him. After the award winning 'Zakhm' (and a forgettable 'Gair'), he establishes yet again that he is a class apart. Tabu gives ample support as the down-to-earth middle class girl.

The surprise package seems to be Rahul Bose who plays the villain. He is excellent through out the film as the epitome of brashness, flamboyance and at the same time emitting cold, calculated emotions with expertise. He is definitely the one to watch out for! Music by AR Rahman is good especially, the number by veteran Asha Bhosle "Rang de.." that is doing well already.

Govind Nihalani has once again proved his mettle by bringing forth the dark world of Mumbai. The general mood of the film is kept alive with great background scores and sets. Editing by Deepa Bhatia is crisp. Govind Nihalani has excelled this time with good direction and as the captain of the ship! Words from the Wise :- See the film. It's reality is gripping. - Aparna Krishnan.

Dillagi

Cast : Bobby Deol, Sunny Deol, Urmila Matondkar
Director : Sunny Deol

Welcome to the feast. Have a scoop of gleeful sonata. No, no, try this, some Punjabi melody curry. Or what about a bite of Sufi vindaloo? Gastronomically gratifying-that's what the delicacy- Dillagi is. The singing credits read like a who's who of the music industry. Not even Mahendra Kapoor -the eternal Punjabi ballad champion, is spared the revelry. Good to hear him after a long time.

The title track, Dillagi is stupefying. The music director trio- Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy have put fireworks on display with Sonu Nigam, Jaspinder Narula, Shankar Mahadevan, Sukhwinder Singh and Kavita Krishnamurty in tow. The trio's musical exploits with the singers and the orchestra can be deemed as superb. Sukhwinder Singh pens and composes Dhoom Dhoom Luck Luck and lends his super-pitched voice too.Lilting. Kya Yeh Such Hai and Koi Nahin Aisa are other gems of songs. Especially it is a delight to hear Amit Kumar after a gap. Yeh Zamin Hai, its pathos is illustrated effectively by the trio and handled adroitly by Roop Kumar Rathod.

Surprise! Surprise! Look, who do we have here? Anand-Milind !! Peeping secretely from the credits, they have a prized composition to their name- a throaty Tanhai by the inimitable Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Last but not the least, don't miss Haan Yeh Pyar Hai, that is, Abhijeet at his best.
