NTPC
The current capacity of NTPC is close to 30,000 MW (29,894 MW), which is nearly one-fifth of India's total installed capacity. We plan to add 22,430 MW during the Eleventh Plan. This will be 60.83 per cent of the central sector contribution during the Plan period. By the year 2014, NTPC plans to reach the following key destinations:

Group turnover of around Rs 1 trillion.
Installed Capacity of over 60,000 MW, with a diversified fuel mix. Renewable capacity of 750 MW, including wind and solar.
Foray into nuclear power generation capacity.
Setting up Pilot IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) Plant of 100-200 MW.

It will develop greenfield sites, expand capacity in our existing units, will add capacity through subsidiaries and joint ventures and will also take over viable stations to become a 75,000 MW company by 2017.

NTPC has 15 coal-based power stations and 7 gas-based power stations and 4 power stations in joint ventures.

In 2007-08, 10 out of the 14 coal-based stations achieved more than 90 per cent capacity utilisation, which is described as Plant Load Factor (PLF) and out of these, four stations achieved more than 95 per cent PLF In 2008-09, this trend is continuing with four to five stations likely to cross 95 per cent PLF

NTPC projects have been receiving national and international awards from prestigious global and national forums for their operational performance, project implementation, safety performance, performance on the fronts of the environment and corporate social responsibility. NTPC has also planted 18 million trees around its stations, which provide a sizeable carbon sink.

NTPC has a wholly-owned subsidiary named NTPC Electric Supply Company Limited (NESCL). It recently formed a joint venture with Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) for acquiring the business of retail distribution of electricity in various industrial parks being developed by KINFRA. NESCL is also exploring the area of retail distribution or, captive mode in green field SEZs and Mega Integrated Townships.

NTPC plans to have 47 MTPA (million tons pej annum) of coal production from its own mine: by 2017. We plan to have a well-diversifies power generation portfolio, including hydro nuclear and new renewables like wind, bio mass and solar. India's first super critica power generation unit is going to be commis sinned at NTPC's Sipat Project at the end o fiscal 2009. We also plan to initiate the process of inducting ultra supercritical units.

We have entered the equipment manufacturing space. NTPC has already formed a join venture with BHEL, incorporated as 'NTP( BHEL Power Projects Private Limited' of manufacturing balance-of-plant (Bop equipments and main-plant equipments. This ensure will also operate in the EPC space. We have another JV incorporated as "BF NTPC Systems Limited" with Bharat Forge This will also help in meeting the requirement of balance of plant equipment.
