Day 1 -- » Arrive Delhi
Meeting and assistance on arrival and transfer to hotel. Afternoon
sightseeing of New and old Delhi. In New Delhi. Visit Qutab
Minar, Humayun's tomb-the mausoleum of emperor Humayun, India
Gate and the parliament House. In old Delhi, see the red fort,
Raj Ghat and Jama Masjid. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2 -- » Delhi - Leh
By Air
Transfer to airport in time for flight to Leh. Meeting and
assistance on arrival and transfer to hotel. Day free for
acclimatization. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3 -- » in Leh
Morning visit shankar Gompa and also visit phiyang Monastery.
Afternoon free. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 4 -- » in Leh
Full day visit to Thiksey, Hemis, Chemrey and Trak Thok.
THIKSEY : The 500-year-old Thiksey monastery, perched
on a hill high above the indus, has about 100 yellow cap monks.
The out side of gompa is painted red and is visible from far
away. If you get to the gompa by 6:30am, you can witness the
daily prayer, preceded by long mournful sounds from the horns
on the roof.
HEMIS : The Hemis gompa (45kmfrom Leh) is famous for
its festival (Hemis Setchu or mela of the Hemis gompa). Hemis
gompa is the largest and one of the most important in Ladakh,
quit apart from its annual festival. It was founded about
360 years ago by Stagshang Raspa, who was invited to Ladakh
by king Singe Namgyal who also established the monasteries
of Chemre, Handle and Themisgam.
CHEMREY : The monastery of the direct patronage of
members of the ruling Namgyal dynasty. Hemis monastery was
established at the instance of king Singe Namgyal, while his
widow founded act of merit for him. Both these belong to red
Hat (Kargyud-pa) sect of Tibetan monasticism.
TRAK-THOK : Trak-Thok gompa represents the smaller
but much older Nyingna-pa and Saskya-pa monastic sects respectively.
Trak-Thok, situated at the foot of the change-la pass, incorporates
one of the many caves in the Himalayas where the Indian Buddhist
apostle padmasamhava is said to have rested and meditated
on his journey to Tibet. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 5 -- » Leh - Likri - Uletopko
70kms Approximately 2-3hrs.
Leave Leh by jeep for Uletopko en-route visiting Likri monastery.
On arrival, check in at hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 6 -- » in Upetopko
Proceed for an excursion to lamayuru monastery. Overnight
stay at the hotel.
Day 7 -- » Uletopko - Alchi -Leh
93kms Approximately 3-4hrs.
Leave Uletopko by jeep for Leh en-route visiting Alchi monastery.
On arrival check in at hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 8 -- » Leh - Delhi
By Air
Transfer to airport in time for flight to Delhi Meeting and
assistance on arrival and transfer to hotel. Overnight stay
at the hotel.
Day 9 -- » in Delhi
Day free. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 10 -- » Leave Delhi
Transfer to airport in time fore flight to onward destination.
